Entelect Active Newsletter - March 2010
Monday, 15th March 2010

It's been a busy few months in the products division at Entelect and with our clients. Some highlights worth mentioning:

  • A hat-trick for our cycling clients at the Argus: Congratulations to Team Medscheme, the MTN Cycling Professional Team and Daryl Impey who got 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the Argus! As you are aware, Daryl rode with Lance Amstrong at the Argus and we hope to see him riding the Tour de France this year with his Radioshack team!
  • Congratulations to the MTN professional cycling team who cleaned up with 3 gold medals at the recent SA road champs: Kevin Evans (time trial), Christoff van Heerden (Road) and Cashandra Slingerland (time trial ladies). Kevin Evans and Yolande Speedy were also recently crowned SA MTB Marathon champions.
  • Significant online entries growth for those using Entelect Event Manager: The MTN National MTB series has experienced almost 100% growth in entrants since switching over to Event Manager and hosting itself on MTN Cycling! Remember, exposure on MTN Cycling is a free service that we offer to all our cycling clients, so please contact us if you need assistance here. This also includes free marketing exposure in the upcoming bi-weekly newsletter that goes to the entire MTN Cycling database.
  • One-number SA Seeding system underway: The SA Seeding solution on http://www.mtncycling.co.za/ is gaining real momentum, thanks to the assistance of our partners Advendurance and MTN. The SA Seeding one-number system is being rolled out successfully in the MTN national mountain biking series and is currently being endorsed by CSA. Please do contact us to find out how to become a SA Seeding compliant event.
  • Sani2c support a success: Our development team tested their new Race Day Application Software at Sani2c, which went to well with participants. We hope to have a more streamlined version out for Joberg2c which we will be attending. A big thank you to our partners SS Timing and SA Seeding who assisted with delivery here.

Entelect Active Newsletter - October 2009
Tuesday, 27th October 2009

October has flown by at a blistering pace. We've been busy here at Entelect, specifically with developing new solutions and revising other products for our valued sporting clients.

JoBerg2C is the latest exciting addition to the Entelect events portfolio. This nine-day, 830km paired mountain bike event is set to challenge even the toughest riders out there as it directs riders along some seldom used off-road trails and through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.

The event kicks off on 23 April 2010 in the south of Johannesburg and ends in Scottburgh on 1 May 2010. Entries officially opened on 20 October, but were quickly closed as the maximum number of 350 teams was reached within an hour. It just goes to show how popular stage MTB racing has become in South Africa and, indeed, the world. The JoBerg2C route tacks along the Sani2C route on stage seven (now split into two events: Subaru Sani2C Adventure and Subaru Sani2C) kicks off on 3 March 2010 for three days of riding from Underberg to Scottburgh.

Entelect Active Newsletter - September 2009

Whether you're a weekend warrior exercising to lose those extra kilos, trying to achieve a personal best time or even a category win, chances are pretty good you need a cycling coach to help achieve your fitness goals. Spring's arrival had many of us dusting off our bicycles and browsing websites in search of that special training programme or coach to help us not only achieve our goals, but to stay motivated and maximise the little time we have left to train.

We've welcome four esteemed and highly respected coaching websites to our stable.  Gary Beneke , a household name in cycling in South Africa, and MTB Skills, the first choice for novices and racing snakes when it comes to learning how to carve up mountain bike single tracks. Active Worx (with Dr. Carol Austin) and Training Bible  will launch very shortly.

Entelect Active Newsletter - August 2009
Tuesday, 18th August 2009

Sani2c is our latest, exciting addition to Entelect events repertoire. The multi-day paired mountain bike event, voted as SA’s best MTB race, is geared toward the promotion, conservation and awareness of the natural assets of the area, and has a reputation of attracting the interest of both local and international competitors.

Entelect’s Sani2c software development team rapidly delivered a stable system while providing a host of new features to Event Manager to handle the entry procedure required by Farmer Glen and his team. These features are now available in our software product suite too. On 3 August, the entry process was activated and entries came flooding in at a rapid pace.

The participant entry procedure required the implementation of a queuing mechanism, which is used to assign entrants to a waiting list, accepted list, query list or paid list. New event participants get automatically assigned to the waiting list while teams from the previous year are placed in the accepted list upon entry. Our Event Manager back-office allows event organisers to manually move teams from one queue to another, teams can be swapped from the Sani2c Adventure to the main race, and team members may also be substituted via the back-office suite.

An additional feature such as the Sani2c entry auction system is already in the works. The online auction system is near completion and will allow entrants in the waiting list to bid for a position in either the adventure or the main race. The auction system is rather powerful and can be used to auction entries and products.

Entelect Active Newsletter - July 2009
Friday, 17th July 2009

MTN South Africa launched its dedicated online cycling portal (www.mtncycling.com) on 4 July 2009 to highlight not only the involvement of the telecommunications group in the sport, but to also provide people with a way to interact with some of the country's top riders. The portal is based on a version of Entelect's Web Manager software.

"Over the next few months, MTN South Africa will incrementally introduce new elements to the portal. Initially, visitors will have access to news and events relating to the MTN Energade team. They will also be able to view individual rider profiles and their Twitter feeds to get a first-hand look into the life of a professional cyclist," says Anthony Garstang, senior manager for sponsorship at MTN South Africa.

Additional functionality to be rolled out will include direct news feeds from other Entelect partner websites, online entries for racing events that use Entelect Event Manager, as well as the creation of individual profiles (late 2009) for a more community-centric portal.

"Cycling is a sport that fosters a very strong sense of community. With the MTN cycling portal, we want to take that community online and provide people from all walks of life with the opportunity to not only see what the sport is about, but to be able to have a line of communication to our professional cyclists," says Doug Ryder, owner of the MTN Energade team.

Entelect Active Newsletter - June 2009
Monday, 22nd June 2009

It's hard to believe that we are already almost half way through the year. With the seasons changing rapidly and our client base continually growing, we encourage you all to provide us with feedback, be it positive or negative, regarding your experience using our software.

We're proud to be hosting the high school MTB series, which is run by Deon Steyn. This series is aimed at school kids and will hopefully be the platform for grooming top-class mountain bikers of the future. Entries will be opening via the Central Gauteng Cycling website.

We congratulate Tanjent Events for hosting a successful event on 31 May: The Royal Canine Dog Day. With over 1 000 dogs walking along the country side, this event is a breath of fresh air; we look forward to next year's event.

Don't forget to enter the MTN Amashova National Classic coming up in October. Melissa, Shelly and Annie - The Right on the Night team - have been working hard throughout the year to push entries, and there is a discount for early birds.

Entelect Active Newsletter - May 2009

Things are forever changing in the world of Entelect Active with you, the client, at the centre of it all. As you have recently heard, Entelect Software has received Microsoft Gold Partnership status. We look forward to the ongoing provision of self-empowering online solutions and associated support on these.

Congratulations to Daryl Impey of Team Barloworld and his recent victory at the Tour of Turkey, taking home the yellow jersey. This was a bitter-sweet victory for Daryl because he was taken down in the final sprint by another rider. Daryl is currently in South Africa recuperating after surgery and we wish him a speedy recovery. Follow Daryl's progress on his website. We also congratulate Jamie Ball from Team House of Paint for winning the SA champs!
